August 2022

A Message from the President

While I know a lot of you will be thinking about the future outcomes of Council elections there are far more important elections before then – for the LG Professionals Tas Board. We have three Board positions that have reached the end of their term and one casual vacancy. If you are interested in standing, please feel free to reach out to any of our current Board Members for information and advice and complete the Nomination form that accompanies this newsletter (along with the information sheet). Don’t wait too long though, as we need to receive nominations by 30 August!

In other news, our Deputy President, Katrena Stephenson is having to step down from the Board as she will no longer be an employee of Council having decided to step away from full-time work for family reasons. Katrena has been involved with LG Pro as a Member, Elected Board Member or invited Board observer for more than a decade. However, we won’t be saying goodbye just yet. You would all be aware we have not yet been able to replace our amazing EO Mary Frost. Katrena is going to help fill that void on a part-time and temporary basis up until the end of October so don’t be surprised if she shows up in your inbox.

And finally from me, I am delighted to be able to provide details of our 2022 conference with this newsletter This key LG Professionals Tasmania event will be held in the North this year, at the Aspect Tamar Valley (Grindelwald) Resort. The theme is Leading the Future Together and we have some great speakers lined up. Make sure you get it in your diary and register early.

Future of Local Government Review

The Local Government Board have released the report from Phase 1 of the Future of Local Government Review. LG Professionals Tasmania provided a submission to Phase 1 on behalf of its members using feedback collected through a member survey.

Following the release of the interim report, the Local Government Board has again directly engaged with LG Professionals and invited LG Pro participation in themed Focus Groups as part of the next phase of consultation. There will be representatives from LG Pro in addition to those put forward by the LGAT but we are working collaboratively to ensure a good mix across the 2 organisations.

We will provide advice on those representatives in the near future.
